Get to Know What You Must Do When You Hang Wall Cabinets
There are lots of wall cabinets that you will find when you shop for one and you must not get worried about going for a DIY installation. You will surely find this to be an excellent do-it-yourself project. Through these tips, you will be able to save time as well as prevent those costly mistakes from happening during your installation. When you are able to do this for the first time, then you know that the future wall cabinet installations will be easy for you to do.
What you need for the process are the stud finder, miter saw, pry bar, jigsaw, level, drill bit set, hole saw kit, clamps, 2 cordless drills, 2 foot level, 4 foot level and the 4-in-1 screwdriver. What you must do first is to mark the wall so that you can know the layout. If you do this, then you can avoid getting surprised later on while you hang the cabinet on the wall. You have to look for the highest point in the floor and you should draw a line 34 1/2 “up, mark the top of your base cabinet. The next thing that you should do is to measure 19 1/2 inches from the line and you can then draw another line and this will be for the bottom part of the wall cabinet. Measure as well as mark every layout for the wall cabinets. You have to draw a vertical line for the installation of the first cabinet. You can then mark the stud locations on the wall below where the cabinet’s bottom will hang.
During the installation process, it is best that you first remove the doors and shelves of the cabinet. Through doing so, then you can make the wall cabinets lighter. Also, it will be less awkward for you to hang.
You have to check the wall through holding that 4 foot level against it so that you will be able to assess if there are major bumps or dips that you must be concerned of. Know that you will find it much easier when you don’t lean over the base cabinets as you hang it. You should then screw the ledger board where you have marked it for the bottom of the cabinet. Screw this in two to three studs. You may rest the cabinet on the ledger board so that you can ensure that you will have a straight alignment and hold the cabinet in place as you screw this on the wall.
You have to finish all the screws that you must place. For the outer edges of the cabinet, it is best that you use four screws. When the cabinet is small or less than 9″ then you can just have 2 screws on the inside.
What you can then do next is to reinstall the doors and ensure if they work properly. Be watchful as you redrive the screws for the cabinet door hinges. Screws are usually made from metal that is fairly soft, making the heads easy to strip and also the shafts easy to snap off.
